This depends – Apartment dwellers might be happiest with a tropical species of tree. Although it would enjoy a summer outside if you have a balcony, tropical trees can be considered indoor bonsai and should be kept indoors during the winter.

All other trees (For example – Maples, Junipers, Pines) will need to be kept outside with some sort of winter protection. These tree will not survive long term inside a warm house. Depending on your winter protection setup, this will dictate what type of tree you can have. Some are ok in an unheated garage, some will need to be kept above freezing, but below 42F to go dormant.

Bonsai trees need some daily attention to keep them happy. If you’re considering giving one as a gift, a workshop or a membership gift certificate could be a great idea. It’ll help the recipient really get into taking care of their new plant!

We currently do no offer private classes, as a member you can bring your tree Bonsai Concepts for repotting. Typically soil, pots and supplies are sold and members are there to assist. You can also visit our resource page for local vendors that might offer this service.

Our auctions are a great place to purchase a tree. Since this is an auction, we do not know what will be available until the day of the auction. The auctions are open to the public and a lot of fun! If you would like to have a tree shipped or looking for something specific, please visit our resource page. You can also ask for recommendation on our member Facebook page.
